The October Issue

Hello there!

We hope you enjoyed September and are getting into the swing of October, below are some things for you to enjoy, this month.

Visiting

Calder on Paper: 1960 - 1976

Calder's works on paper are spending some time in the basement of the Saatchi Gallery and they are just marvellous. There is something so fascinating seeing his array of paintings, all exactly the same size, but painted at different times in bright bright primary colours. Just so satisfying.  I would suggest skipping the rest of the current exhibition and spending all your time in this room with these paintings.

27th September - 8th December

Eating

The Cheese Bar

Warning if you don't like cheese then go back to the dreary life you lead (sorry to say it but cheese is life). From the legends who gave us The Cheese Truck, they have now made permanent residence in Camden. It's interior is chic and modern and the vibes super chilled. We'd recommend the mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce to start with, followed by the blue cheese raclette and finish off with a classic lemon blueberry cheesecake #heartattack #cheeseheaven

Indulging

Crosstown Doughnuts

JUST SO GOOD. I am particularly partial to the Matcha doughnut, they are nice and weighty, so you don't gobble them down to fast. They have a lovely little shop in Soho, and make vegan doughnuts on the weekends if you are after a vegan type of treat. They are also on deliveroo... very dangerous.

Wearing

Studio One Twenty

Please may I have everything from Studio One Twenty, starting with these amazing Rose Slippers? Everything is super, I really want the red heart shaped handbag, it's all just quite fun. You can find them online, or at 120 Islington High Street.

Dressing Up In

Lime Green Bow Vintage

Calling all vintage lovers, Clemmie Myers' sorcery has scoured all over the UK, trans Atlantic and beyond to give you an eclectic mix of pieces. Burrowed amongst the hustle and bustle of Portobello Road, its the perfect place to find that special one-off gem.

Reading

The Book of Dust

I am so very very excited about this book, it has been 17 years since the Amber Spyglass was published, just a little bit of a wait..La Belle Sauvage is the first book of Philip Pullman's new trilogy The Book of Dust, and is set 10 years before Northern Lights and centres on Lyra.  He describes it as being an 'equel' to the Dark Materials, a new story that stands beside his first trilogy. Alethiometers features along with characters old and new, I can't wait.To celebrate the launch of this new book, The Illustration Cupboard are having an exhibition of John Lawrence and Chris Wormell's original illustrations from Philip Pullman's books.Exhibition 16th-21st October, The Illustration Cupboard, Mayfair

Watching

The Party

Sally Potter's latest film explores the weaknesses of the British middle classes and British politics. Shot in black and white, with a stellar cast boasting the likes of Timothy Spall and Kristin Scott Thomas, this dark satirical comedy is played out in real time. Like the perfect guest, it doesn't outstay its welcome!

Premiering at the BFI festival, release date 13th October.

Listening To

San Felu

The new single Neptune Black Blather Flamingo, from the album How to Build Windmills has the same powerful melody and lyrics as previous songs, but with a slightly more up beat feel, have a listen to all his songs, I'm a big fan Sanctuary Blues.

Released on 29th September.

Giving

I am so into this subscription box, as simple as it says - each month you get a good book and some nice teabags, what more could you want to arrive in the post?  Also a great way to choose a book club book, with more than enough tea for everyone.
